Idaho health insurance plans
How individual and family health coverage works in Idaho, in plain language.
Where Idaho residents shop
Idaho residents who buy their own coverage shop on Your Health Idaho at www.yourhealthidaho.org. That is also where income-based help with monthly premiums (premium tax credits) is applied. Idaho runs its own marketplace, so it has its own enrollment dates and rules.
Idaho also runs a state reinsurance program that helped bring individual-market premiums down roughly 18% for 2026 -- a state-level lever most federal-exchange states don't have, on top of running Your Health Idaho itself.
Enrolling
Open enrollment dates are set by the marketplace and can change from year to year, so confirm this year’s window on the marketplace site before you plan around it. Outside open enrollment you generally need a qualifying life event, such as losing other coverage, moving, or a change in household size.
What affects the plans you see
- Where you live. Plans and premiums are set by area within Idaho, so your county matters. Find your county.
- Income and household size. These determine help with premiums and whether you may qualify for Medicaid instead.
- Plan level. Metal levels (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) trade a lower monthly premium against higher costs when you use care.
The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare administers Medicaid statewide -- that's the right place to start if your Idaho Medicaid eligibility changed.
Idaho built its own ACA marketplace, Your Health Idaho, and was the first state-based exchange in the country to migrate off HealthCare.gov's technology onto its own -- Idaho plan shopping happens there, not on the federal site.
SHIBA (Senior Health Insurance Benefits Advisors) gives free Medicare counseling at 1-800-247-4422, run by the Idaho Department of Insurance and separate from Idaho Insurance Plans's own free phone help.

How do I apply for Medicaid in Idaho?

Idaho Department of Insurance (https://doi.idaho.gov) regulates insurance companies and agents in Idaho. You can use it to check that an agent or company is licensed and to file a complaint.

Does Idaho Insurance Plans cost anything to use?
There is no cost to call or to speak with an agent. Insurance premiums and plan costs are set by the insurance companies and are separate from our help.
